Mobil Retail Fuels Business Sale Status
30 April 2010
Melbourne, Australia – Mobil Oil Australia Pty Ltd (“Mobil”), a subsidiary of ExxonMobil Australia Pty Ltd (“ExxonMobil Australia”), today confirmed that the sale of its retail fuels business to Caltex Australia (“Caltex”) will no longer proceed.
Mobil's Fuels Director Paul Rea, said “Given the position taken by the ACCC, both parties have agreed to terminate the sale agreements.
“Mobil continues to believe that the sale of our retail business to Caltex would not have had an adverse effect on competition in the Australian fuels market,” said Mr Rea.
Mobil is considering other options for its metropolitan retail fuels business.
Neither the former proposed sale to Caltex, nor any of the options currently under consideration for the retail fuels business, include any other part of ExxonMobil Australia's operations.
