New lease on life for Barry Beach Marine Terminal

Esso has a long and proud history in the Gippsland area spanning over five decades. In that time, as part of the Gippsland Basin Joint Venture with BHP Billiton, we have invested billions of dollars into developing the infrastructure required to meet the energy needs of Australian households and businesses.

Today our Gippsland operations are undergoing fundamental changes as our older oil and gas fields approach the end of their production. We have been reviewing all parts of our business in order to ensure we’re maximizing the value of all our assets and extending the life of our gas operations.

Following our recent completion of the Kipper Tuna Turrum Project, the utilisation of our Barry Beach Marine Terminal – the main supply depot for our 23 offshore platforms and installations – has quietened right down.

We now have just one boat, the Far Supplier, servicing our platforms and it calls in at the terminal in South Gippsland for re-supplies about once a week.

Barry Beach Marine Terminal has played an integral role in the history of Bass Strait, having been the site where our first steel platform jackets were built back in the 1960s

We have invested a great deal in this terminal over the years and the result is an excellent port facility capable of servicing industries and agriculture across Gippsland.

After undertaking an extensive commercial process, Qube Energy Pty Ltd has been chosen to operate Barry Beach Marine Terminal on our behalf. It will continue to provide supply depot services to our offshore platforms as well having the ability to offer the port facilities to third-party businesses.

Qube is a diversified logistics and infrastructure company, with expertise in logistics management.

Barry Beach Marine Terminal is a valuable asset to the Gippsland region and, with the ability to now provide a broader range logistics services, it has the potential to create economic and employment growth opportunities for Victoria.

We expect to transition operations to Qube later this year.
