Mobil injects over $100,000 into local schools and kinders to support maths and science education

  • In 2014, Mobil’s Altona Refinery and Yarraville Terminal have provided over $100,000 to enhance the science and maths education at 25 local schools and kindergartens.
  • Mobil has contributed over $394,000 to local schools and kinders since its annual Bright Future Grants program began in 2009.

Mobil is hoping to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists by injecting over $100,000 into local schools and kindergartens through its 2014 Bright Future Grants.

Through the 2014 Bright Future Grants program, 25 schools and kindergartens close to the Mobil Altona Refinery and Mobil Yarraville Terminal have received a grant of up to $4000 each for a variety of maths and science resources and projects.

“Scientists and engineers are critical for addressing the challenges of 21st century life. That’s why we invest in education programs that focus on inspiring kids to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” said Andrew Warrell, Altona Refinery Manager.

“From medicine to energy development to computing and engineering, we are supporting the development of a passionate and highly skilled workforce that will help solve problems and create new opportunities into the future.”

Kindergartens, primary and secondary schools are using the money for a broad range of maths and science resources and projects, from purchasing new technology such as iPads, smartboard software and robotics kits, to funding outdoor programs to teach students about sustainability, such as developing a bush tucker garden and living laboratory and a project to re-vegetate part of Kororoit Creek.

Mobil has a long history of supporting local schools and kindergartens. Since the Bright Future Grants program began in 2009, Mobil has provided over $394,000 to local schools and kindergartens to support maths and science education.
