Opera Australia performs crowd favourites at A Mobil Night at the Opera

ExxonMobil, in conjunction with Opera Australia, Orchestra Victoria and Hobsons Bay Council presented a free concert, ‘A Mobil Night at the Opera’ on Monday 27 July at the Williamstown Town Hall.

Close to one thousand members from the community enjoyed the one hour concert, which featured some of the most recognisable and cherished arias from Puccini, Verdi, Bizet and Rossini including the heart-rending O mio babbino caro, the joyful Brindisi and the rousing, crowd favourite Nessun Dorma.

Opera Australia’s Artistic Director Lyndon Terracini said, “We believe opera is for everyone. That is why it is such an important part of Opera Australia's responsibility to take performances to audience’s right around the country. We’re grateful for our partnership with ExxonMobil which has enabled us to perform once again in Hobsons Bay. It is without doubt one of Opera Australia's greatest joys to connect with local communities.”

As a long standing partner of Opera Australia, ExxonMobil has provided invaluable support to performances and the Opera Australia Chorus over the past 35 years. This year they support The Elixir of Love as Production Partner in Melbourne in November.

Andrew Warrell, ExxonMobil Manager of Refining, Australia and New Zealand said, “Mobil is delighted to once again bring A Mobil Night at the Opera to Williamstown Town Hall. Mobil is committed to being a responsible and active member of our community and we are proud to support this fantastic evening of entertainment, enjoyed by nearly 1,000 locals every two years.”

Mayor of Hobsons Bay City Council, Councillor Colleen Gates said that the local community always looked forward to this night of opera in Hobsons Bay.

“We appreciate ExxonMobil’s long standing commitment to this event and making it possible every second year for our community to enjoy a free night of opera,” the Mayor said.

Conductor Guy Noble led Opera Australia sopranos Natalie Aroyan and Lorina Gore, tenor Martin Buckingham and baritone Chris Hillier, and the 43-piece Orchestra Victoria.
