Mobil injects $30,000 into new educational resources at local primary schools

Mobil Oil New Zealand Limited is helping to inspire a new generation in science and maths education by investing over $30,000 into local primary schools in 2017.
  • In 2017, Mobil Oil New Zealand Limited has provided $30,000 to enhance educational resources at six primary schools located close to our operations
  • Mobil has contributed more than $160,000 to local schools since 2012

Through the 2017 Bright Future Grants program, six primary schools from across New Zealand have each received grants of $5,000 for educational resources and projects.

Mobil Bright Future grants are an annual funding program designed to promote science and maths education among schools and early childhood education centres close to Mobil’s main operating facilities, such as fuel terminals.

The grants will enable local primary schools to invest in additional technology and resources for their teaching curriculum; from purchasing new technology such as iPads, smartboard software and robotics kits, to funding outdoor programs which teach students about sustainability, such as edible garden projects.

“Science and maths knowledge across a range of sectors is critical for addressing the challenges of 21st century life. That’s why we invest in education programs that focus on inspiring Kiwi kids to pursue a range of innovation- and technology-driven careers,” said Andrew McNaught, Mobil Oil New Zealand country manager.

“Science and maths education isn’t just crucial for our future engineers and scientists, but is something we believe is fundamental to any career. We support the development of a passionate and highly skilled generation that will help solve problems and create new opportunities into the future, no matter what field they’re working in.

“We look forward to visiting the recipients of our 2017 Bright Future grants to see our contributions in action.”

Mobil has a long history of supporting local schools and kindergartens. Since 2012, Mobil Oil New Zealand has provided over $160,000 to local schools to support math and science education.

In 2017, Mobil Oil New Zealand has provided Bright Future grants to the following schools:

  • Lyttelton Primary School (Christchurch)
  • Heathcote Valley School (Christchurch)
  • Mount Maunganui Primary School (Mount Maunganui)
