Golden Beach petroleum accumulations

Esso was made aware through the Department of Transport, Planning and Local Infrastructure (DTPLI) that some accumulations of petroleum have been found washed up in the area of Golden Beach, a section of 90 Mile Beach in Gippsland Victoria. Accumulations of petroleum such as this can be caused by a range of different events.

Esso is not aware of any issues associated with its offshore infrastructure that could have caused the accumulations, but it has been and is continuing to investigate.

DTPLI is the agency responsible for marine pollution incidents and is arranging the clean-up of the beaches. DTPLI will also investigate the source of the oil and Esso is engaging with the Department to provide assistance throughout the course of its clean-up and investigation.

Esso has provided resources to assist with the clean-up, including beach clean-up teams and equipment, under the direction of the lead response agency.
