New gas fields kicking goals
In winter most conversations are dominated by one subject – footy. However, at Esso our winter conversations have two dominant themes – footy and gas.

New gas fields kicking goals
Just as winter is the height of the footy season, it is also the height of the gas season.
This is when all those preparations over the summer months – maintenance and mending – and the trials and build-ups over autumn early season turn to peak performance.
This winter is the first where we have had the new recruits – Kipper, Tuna, Turrum – playing at full strength alongside the old champions – Marlin, Barracouta, Snapper.
Thanks to some innovative engineering, the new fields are really pulling their weight, providing close to two-thirds of Gippsland’s winter gas supply mix.
“We’ve found new ways to maximise production from our Kipper, Tuna and Turrum fields this winter,” said Gippsland Operations Manager Stuart Jeffries.
“They are providing 20 percent more gas than they did last winter.
“This is the result of innovative production debottlenecking on our new platforms, reliability improvements from a series of well-executed maintenance shutdowns at our onshore plants and offshore platforms and new gas blending opportunities.”
The winter peak gas season is driven by the increased need for heating in homes and businesses across the east coast states.
Our Gippsland operations have been supplying the east coast market for half a century – in fact next year marks the 50th anniversary of our first production of gas from Bass Strait.
“Natural gas is of vital importance to Australia’s economy. As one of the world’s leading gas suppliers, we consider all options when it comes to meeting our customers’ needs.”
