This free community concert was held in partnership with Wellington Shire Council, Orchestra Victoria and Opera Australia, whose principal artists dazzled the audience with opera classics such as ‘Largo al factotum’ from Rossini’s Barber of Seville, ‘Habanera’ from Bizet’s Carmen and the breathtaking ‘Nessun dorma’ from Puccini’s Turandot.
Chairman Richard Owen said holding the concert was a wonderful way to thank the Gippsland community and local workforce for their support over the past year.
“While Esso has enjoyed a long association with Opera Australia, our affinity with the Gippsland community dates back to the 1960s when our local operations commenced. In subsequent years, we have strived to be a valued member of the community and the Esso Night at the Opera is a wonderful way for us to show our gratitude to the people of Gippsland.”
With an enthusiastic response from a capacity crowd, Esso looks forward to sharing its passion for the Opera with the people of Gippsland again in the near future.
“I love coming to Sale for a show at The Wedge Performing Arts Centre. It’s welcoming, charming and warm… very much in keeping with the local Gippsland community,” concluded Richard.
