Supporting arts in the community
In the half-century since ExxonMobil subsidiary Esso Australia formed its historic Gippsland Basin Joint Venture with BHP, we have also formed long-lasting relationships with a wide variety of organisations. Across our many decades of providing energy for Australia, we have remained committed to making a positive and lasting contribution to the broader community.

Supporting arts in the community
Recently we have been working with Opera Australia to bring the wonders of world-class opera to a wider audience, including the communities that we work in. We have supported opera initiatives that promote community access, including a free children’s opera for local schools which will take place in Sale this coming July.
Our support for the arts extends further than opera. Last year, Esso Australia gifted 40 original artworks to the Gippsland Art Gallery in Sale in recognition of the local community’s ongoing support of Esso’s Gippsland operations.
In addition to support for the arts, throughout the fifty years of Gippsland Basin Joint Venture operations, the wider community has benefited through significant contributions in support of schools, emergency services, hospitals and a wide range of community groups.
Longford Plants Manager David Anderson said that local community engagement programs currently include financial support for many Gippsland community organisations, as well as employee volunteering awards and other programs.
“While the energy we produce in Gippsland is used to maintain and build standards of living in communities across south-eastern Australia, we also believe in making a valuable contribution directly to the local communities in which we operate.
“We look forward to maintaining our support for local communities near our areas of operation via our community contributions program,” he said.
