Engaging with our Gippsland neighbours

Last month the annual Longford and Offshore Community Stakeholder Dinner was held in Sale, to discuss our recent and upcoming activities across our Gippsland Basin operations.

“As we work through an array of new projects across the region, our annual Community Dinner ensures we remain in close touch with the community and understand their needs, whilst providing them with the opportunity to have their questions or concerns answered,” said Esso Australia Production Manager, Geoff Humphreys.

“After two years of virtual consultations, I am truly thankful that we could finally gather in person once again.”

During the session, members of the Esso Australia team highlighted some recent community contributions and partnerships, our coveted apprenticeship program, our plans to decarbonise our gas production, how we are continuing to invest in delivering Gippsland gas to Australia and an update on our decommissioning progress.

“It was great to showcase our recently announced South East Australia Carbon Capture Hub and work with Air Liquide to recycle CO2, which highlight the potential for our existing infrastructure to provide low carbon solutions across the Gippsland region,” Geoff continued.

In attendance was Mayor Ian Bye and key Wellington Shire Councillors, local primary and secondary schools, hospitals and emergency response organisations such as Country Fire Authorities, to community groups, Rotary clubs and local charities.

Newly appointed Longford Plant Manager, Clinton Gentle, was eager to meet the some of the community stakeholders face-to-face.

“It was great to touch-base with the community and receive some direct feedback,” said Clinton.

“We always endeavor to be a valued member of our community and have developed many longstanding community partnerships over the years. The Sale and Longford community is essential to our operations and we’re thankful to have the opportunity to host them,” he concluded.
