More apprentices kick start their careers with Esso Australia

Eight new apprentices embarked on their career journey at Esso Australia’s Longford Gas Plant and Long Island Point Plant across February and March.

At Longford Gas Plant, Eli Fraser and Nathan Richardson commence their four-year mechanical apprenticeship, while Brody Dobson and Jacob Williams begin their careers as electrical instrumentation apprentices. All four are local to the Sale region, and finished their year twelve studies in 2021.

At Long Island Point Fractionation Plant, Harry Willetts begins his traineeship in supply chain operations, and Benjamin Jones tackles an apprenticeship in electrical instrumentation. Matthew Precht and Jason Brown have commenced their studies as mechanical fitter and turners. Harry, Benjamin and Matthew all hail from the Mornington Peninsula Shire, while Jason is relocating from Gippsland.

The apprentices are employed through a leading program established at Esso Australia’s sites in conjunction with WPC Group back in 2018, which last year was recognised at the Australian Training Awards for its innovation and 100% retention rate.

Over the last three years, the program has been responsible for the employment of dozens of apprentices and trainees across a range of trades including mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, business and process plant operations.

“We’re excited to welcome Eli, Nathan, Brody and Jacob to the Longford team,” said Kartik Garg, Longford Plant Manager.

“Here at Longford, we’ve committed to an ongoing recruitment plan which will see us maintain a number of apprentices within our workgroups well into the future,” continued Kartik.

“This pledge is a great way to ensure we continue to provide opportunities for our local youth as well as give back to our amazing community. We will commence recruitment for 2023 intake later this year”

Long Island Point Asset Manager, David McCord, highlighted the importance of the apprenticeship program.

 “Our greatest asset is the outstanding quality of our employees and their collective talents. It’s great to have young faces join us at the plant, with new ideas and fresh perspectives, ready to be trained by our talented senior staff.

“I wish to extend a warm welcome to Harry, Matthew, Jason and Benjamin. We are excited to have you join the Esso journey.”
