Caring is cleaning for Altona Refinery

For several years now, the Mobil Altona Refinery has been working closely with Conservation Volunteers Australia (CVA) to assist them in supporting the natural habitats of local animals and plants in the local area. As such, when it came time for Mobil’s annual Day of Caring on Thursday 22 November, the Altona team was more than ready to roll up their sleeves for the CVA’s latest clean up project at Point Gellibrand Coastal Heritage Park in Williamstown.

Along with it being a beautiful coastal vantage point, Point Gellibrand Coastal Heritage Park has a rich history as the site of Victoria’s first permanent settlement and seaport and was crucial to the initial growth of the state.

Despite the cooler weather and armed with gloves and a ‘can do’ attitude, the team spent a full day beautifying the area by clearing weeds and filling bags full of rubbish.

Community Relations Adviser Nikki Calcraft said the Altona team enjoys its involvement in these initiatives which help preserve the local environment.

“Supporting the CVA with their clean-up days enables us to get our hands, enjoy the great outdoors as a team and make a noticeable difference to the area,” said Nikki.

Earlier this year the team worked with the CVA to deliver the Victorian Wetland Care Education Program to local schools including Newport Lakes Primary School and supported community volunteer wetland days in Williamstown’s Stony Creek Backwash and Jawbone Flora and Fauna Reserve.
