Ready for anything

The four day workshop, held in Geelong in November, not only prepares participants to respond to marine spills at their respective sites, it also enables ExxonMobil Australia to meet its obligation as an AMOSC participating company to provide a minimum number of qualified oil spill response personnel to assist industry in a mutual aid capacity if needed.

Esso Australia Emergency Preparedness & Response Advisor Bruce Robinson, who acts as the ExxonMobil Core Group supervisor, said ExxonMobil Australia is well placed to support the wider industry should an AMOSC Core Group call out be activated.

“Mobil Altona Refinery provides around half of the ExxonMobil Core Group participants and Esso Australia the other half. Altona Refinery participants – Simon Thomas, Wayne Deller, Paul Winship, Bob Kydd and Don Mitchell - along with Brett Johnstone, Leigh Johnson and I from Esso, all appreciated the opportunity to enhance our emergency response skills & knowledge throughout the workshop,” he said.

Altona Refinery Emergency Response & Security Lead Simon Thomas said it was great to meet and share knowledge with colleagues from across the wider business.

“Participating in training exercises such as this one really helps our organisation in its aim to be well prepared for any incident that may potentially occur in order to minimise any impacts on the community and the environment,” he said.
