This commitment to engendering healthy lifestyle practices saw Altona Refinery recently upgrade its gym. This included new equipment and a revitalisation of the room itself with new flooring and blind as well as a fresh lick of paint.
Workers on-site will also have access to a brand new health program onsite which will include weekly exercise classes and team activities.
Altona Refinery SSHE Manager David Schuller said the workforce are encouraged to make exercise a part of their work routine.
“We believe a healthy workforce is a happy and productive workforce which is why we are committed to investing in wellbeing initiatives at the refinery,” he said.
Upgrading the Altona Refinery’s gym also presented the team with an opportunity to assist the local Altona P-9 College by donating the old gym equipment.
Rhett Dadswell, a P.E. teacher Altona P-9 College, said the school previously had a small gym set up and was looking to add more equipment so more students could engage in the school’s sport science and strength training programs.
“Strength training has many benefits for a young person’s physical and emotional wellbeing. This donation has enabled us to expand our program, offer specialised male or female only groups and generally support the health and wellbeing of students here at the college,” said Rhett.
