ExxonMobil has learned over many years that a balanced business is also a better business.
The petroleum industry is a male-dominated industry. In the early 1990s Esso Australia embarked on a strategy to recruit more women and this gave the company a competitive edge in the quest for the best technical minds.
“Attracting the best people and retaining them throughout their working lives is a significant challenge,” said Women in Energy Network (WEN) Chair Jenny Bransfield.
“The development of people within ExxonMobil is particularly critical, because we hire a large number of our people straight from university.
“As a result we work to develop an environment that assists our people to achieve a meaningful long-term, successful career with development opportunities, while providing the flexibility they may need to achieve what they want to do personally.”
Over the years the company has developed a suite of programs to provide flexibility, such as part-time work and various leave options, and we continue to work towards improving our inclusion and diversity culture in order to assist all employees to achieve their full potential.
“Today we are reaping the rewards of that strategy to attract and retain more women that began back in the ‘90s,” said Senior Production Planning & Scheduling Supervisor Kimberly Hribar.
“Many of our past Australian technical women graduates are today working in some of the most senior roles in the company here and around the world."
