Opera shines at community concert

ExxonMobil Australia has again brought the opera to the community of Melbourne’s west, holding the tenth Mobil Night at the Opera concert in Williamstown in March.

The free community concert coincided with another local milestone – 70 years of Altona Refinery operations

The event is hosted by ExxonMobil Australia in conjunction with Opera Australia, Orchestra Victoria and Hobsons Bay City Council and includes a popular program of opera and orchestral highlights with many crowd favourites. Performed by a full orchestra, the opera artists included Lorina Gore, Tania Ferris, Samuel Dundas and Simon Kim, all conducted by Maestro Tahu Matheson.

Altona Refinery Manager Riccardo Cavallo said that over the years, this Williamstown tradition has become a must-see concert for many.

“Our Mobil Night at the Opera event is another way we thank the local community for their ongoing support.

“While I am extremely proud of what the Altona Refinery team has achieved from a production and health and safety perspective, what is most gratifying is the manner in which our entire team has embraced community involvement, viewing it as a core element of what we do.

“Our community concert was yet another opportunity for us to spend time with our neighbours outside of work and for the community as a whole to enjoy a fun night of fantastic music as we celebrate the tenth anniversary of this wonderful event, and significantly, 70 years of Altona Refinery,” he said.
