Mobil Pātea service station back in business

Pātea's sole petrol provider is back in business and looking better than ever, as the service station celebrates its official grand re-opening today.

The service station, a vital hub for the Pātea community, closed in mid-February for a comprehensive upgrade programme ahead of its rebranding as a Mobil service station.

Upgrades to the site include installing larger, double-walled fibreglass storage tanks, to bring the service station in line with Mobil’s enhanced and stringent operational safety, integrity and environmental stewardship standards.

Other new features include offering the Mobil SynergyTM family of fuels, introducing 24-hour fuelling and Pay at Pump, installing fast-flow diesel hoses on the forecourt, and a refurbished Mobil Mart convenience store that includes the addition of barista-made coffee. A laundromat located at the service station will also continue to operate.

The service station will also accept Mobilcard, and customers will be able to earn fuel discounts and rewards through the Mobil Smiles Driver RewardsTM programme.

Owners Jay Knight and Michelle Bishop, who have been operating the service station for approximately 12 years, say they are immensely excited to be reopening as a Mobil-branded service station, and think local and passing motorists alike will be delighted with the changes.

“It was a big decision to close for three months while the site was revamped, but the re-branding to Mobil means we’ve been able to include a range of new features that will make the fuelling experience that much more pleasing,” says Jay Knight.

The two had also been busy practicing their coffee-making skills, as well as training their staff, and think the locals will be pleasantly surprised.

“It took me a few tries, but I’m pretty confident I can now make a pretty tasty flat white,” says Jay Knight. “That said, I encourage our regulars to come in and judge for themselves.”

Mobil Oil New Zealand Limited (Mobil) lead country manager Andrew McNaught says that Mobil is immensely pleased to add Pātea to the company’s growing service station network, and he thinks the enhancements will be a welcome addition to the community.

“It’s safe to say that Jay and Michelle are true Pātea locals, and we couldn’t be happier to have them join the Mobil family. The revamped service station looks fantastic, and I applaud the Knights’ investment in their community,” he says.

Mobil supports Pātea Community Patrol
In demonstrating its support for the communities in which it operates, Mobil will also be supporting the local Pātea Community Patrol, with a $1,500 contribution being made towards the Patrol’s operating costs.

Andrew McNaught says the funds from Mobil will enable the Pātea Community Patrol to continue its admirable work assisting Police and other agencies to help keep Pātea safe.
