Students from universities around Australia are encouraged to apply for the program, which will run for a 12 week period over the summer. Students who take part will be mentored by industry experts, on site, in real-life work situations.

Engineering Graduate Recruitment Lead Hussain Ali said the vacation student program gives the brightest young minds practical experience across ExxonMobil Australia’s local oil and gas operations.

“A place in our annual vacation student program is incredibly sought-after by university students. Each year we receive about 800 applicants for the program.

“We select a long list of applicants from across the country for interviews. Last year, the successful applicants worked on projects across our Gippsland operations, Altona Refinery and Yarraville Terminal. The vacation student program then forms the basis of our graduate recruitment selection process for permanent roles,” he said.

Chris Brand, a 2018/2019 vacation student, is now employed as a Production Engineer with the company and credits the experience he had during the vacation student program as providing a unique insight into ExxonMobil Australia’s vast business footprint locally.

“I had the privilege of visiting offshore platforms and engaging closely with the business. It is rewarding to know that the project I was given would make a real difference and add value to the business,” he said.
