Safety milestone for Halibut

In 2017, the team on Halibut platform achieved the remarkable safety feat of ten years without a reportable safety incident. The milestone involved around 700,000 hours of work.

This achievement is especially significant as this includes operations, maintenance, construction and workover activities performed by a rotating, multi-discipline workforce.

Over the last ten years, initiatives such as improved communications for offshore facilities and in-depth training programs have helped to further build and maintain a strong safety culture across our offshore operations in Bass Strait. A significant investment in safety has seen more than $100 million spent in recent years on safety initiatives across our Gippsland operations.

Offshore Safety Coordinator Glenn Dyer said the reaching this safety milestone demonstrates the ongoing commitment to ensure the safety of offshore operations.

“Safety is not just a priority but rather a core value for our organisation. Our people - our employees and our contractors - are deeply committed to safely producing oil and gas,” he said.

Lead Country Manager Richard Owen congratulated the team on Halibut for their outstanding commitment to safety.

“In our changing business, our focus on safety must never waver. The team on Halibut are to be commended for maintaining their dedication to their own and each other’s safety over the past decade,” he said.
