Community at the heart of our operations

With demand for gas never higher, our Longford plants have been operating at record levels for over two years. The fact that we have been able to maintain these production levels year-round is a testament to the amazing team at Longford, from the operators right down to the apprentices.

David I. Anderson

Longford Plants Manager, Esso Australia

Their commitment to innovation and ‘getting the job done’ has seen them not just work harder but also smarter in creating new production and maintenance opportunities that keep our plants running like well-oiled machines… which frankly they are.

While the consistent uptick in demand has been met at every turn by our committed Longford team, it has also presented us with the opportunity to grow the team across a number of areas.

Here at Longford, we are looking to bolster our capabilities with new talent from the local community who will have the opportunity to begin rewarding careers at Esso as Maintainers or Operators.

Perhaps most significantly, our current intake has a strong focus on apprenticeships which is an area close to my heart having started my Esso career as an apprentice at the Longford plant over three decades ago.

As a Longford native, an apprenticeship with Esso opened up a world of opportunities for me and was the best career decision I ever made. What began as a standard apprenticeship blossomed into roles that have taken me as far away as Italy and the U.S and as close as my home-town of Longford where I oversee the day-to-day activities of a facility with more than 350 people on site any given day and which supplies 50 percent of the eastern Australian gas market.

I am looking forward to meeting all the new faces who represent the future of Esso in Longford, though, I’m sure I will have seen quite a few of them before around the community.

Finally, as part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining open and honest communications with the local community, we held a community information session last month in relation to public concerns over PFAS contamination at our Longford Plants. The purpose of the session was to update the community on our clean-up plans and answer their questions. We remain committed to keeping residents and business owners in-the-loop with regards to our ongoing investigation.

As always I have an open door and open phone line policy, so if you were unable to make it to the information session or have any questions about PFAS, or about working at Esso, feel free to call me directly on 5149 6206.
