Esso moves back to the heart of Sale

Esso built the office block back in the 1970s as its Gippsland headquarters.

It was officially opened, along with the Longford Gas Plant No. 2, by the then Victorian Premier, Dick Hamer, at a special ceremony on February 20, 1976, in the Sale Memorial Hall.

“It’s great to be moving back to our old building,” said Esso Offshore Operations Manager Geoff Humphreys. “This move shows have we have evolved over the years.

“We built this building during a time of tremendous growth in our operations. Through the ‘70s and 80s’ this was the centre of our Gippsland operations and we occupied the entire building.

“Now we are leasing one floor. It has been fitted out in the latest We3 design like our Melbourne office. This is designed to encourage collaboration, to help generate and develop ideas on how to secure our Gippsland gas future.”

Geoff said the company had signed a long-term lease which further demonstrates its commitment to our extensive Gippsland operations.

“This new office help us to locate personnel close to where our facilities are, so that they can be closer to the equipment and operations they support as we continue to build a stronger business,” he said.    

“We have always been an active member of the Gippsland community and this move reinforces our local ties. It also coincides with an exciting period as we celebrate 50 years of offshore production in Bass Strait in 2019.”

He said the move into the new office was expected to be completed by the end of the week.
