Esso kick-starts budding careers
selected item
As a major employer in the Gippsland area, Esso’s Longford Plants has been supplying Australia with energy since 1969 with the help of local residents, including many past graduates of Sale Catholic College and Maffra Secondary College.
Longford Plants staff members Jim Kristeff and Heath Brew attended the expo to give students the inside word on what an exciting and rewarding career can look like at the Longford Plants and beyond.
The focus on youth education and employment in Gippsland continues at site as well, with eight new mechanical apprentices at Longford Plants attending their first day of trade school this month.
Community Relations Adviser Angela Jones said it was gratifying to see students engaging directly with Jim and Heath and expressing their interest in the industry and STEM-based work.
“We are committed to investing in operational roles which can open up a world of opportunities for young workers.
“Longford Plants Manager, David Anderson, exemplifies this approach. He began his studies in Gippsland before taking up an apprenticeship at the plant he now manages,” she said.
