Esso supports A Better Life for Foster Kids youth camp

Esso Australia is supporting Gippsland-based charity, A Better Life for Foster Kids, by funding 25 slots at their Youth Mental Health Camp to be held later this year.

Developed to help build young men’s confidence and resilience, the Youth Mental Health Camps run over four nights, and are open to young men aged from 12 to 17 who are in foster or kinship care.

“Our Youth Mental Health Camps provide young people in out of home care with the opportunity to connect with those who have had similar experiences, whilst being mentored by trained camp staff and having a tonne of fun,” said Heather Baird, A Better Life for Foster Kids’ Founder and Coordinator.

“We’ve seen first-hand in camps we’ve run with younger children how much this social outlet helps build emotional and social skills, and how much the confidence-building components of the program increase self-esteem and supports good mental health.”

“Further to this, the camp provides physical wellbeing activities, including canoeing, ropes courses, laser tag, and problem-solving challenges,” Heather continued.

Longford Plants Manager Clinton Gentle, said that he was proud of the company’s support of A Better Life for Foster Kids.
