Long Island Point Plant Update

Esso’s Long Island Point plant has safely increased its flaring after a downstream receiving customer experienced a process issue at their facility.

We have taken steps to reduce our rates of natural gas liquids to Long island Point and minimise flaring as much as possible during this time until our customer’s process issues are resolved. Flaring is necessary for the continued safe operations of our plant.

We apologise for any inconvenience or concern this may cause our neighbours. If any residents have concerns, please contact communityANZ@exxonmobil.com.

This current event demonstrates why Esso is investing more than $120 million in the best available emissions reduction technology so that we can manage excess ethane gas and reduce the need to flare when our downstream customer experiences planned or unplanned maintenance and can’t accept ethane. This critical project will help ensure Victoria’s ongoing natural gas supply, reduce unwanted flaring and generate power for the community.
