Long Island Point Plant Update

March 2023 update from LIP Plant Manager, Andrew Cooke

I’d like to introduce myself to the Westernport and wider Mornington Peninsula community. I am honoured to take on my new role as Long Island Point (LIP) Plant Manager and I’m excited to continue strengthening Esso’s engagement with our local community over the coming years.

Last month, we held our first of two community sessions for the year. It was an opportunity for the community to find out more about our LIP operations, Esso’s broader activities throughout Victoria, ask questions and have their concerns addressed. Thanks to everyone who came along to learn more about the important work we do in supplying gas to Australian households and businesses.

In terms of the additional flaring that’s currently underway at our LIP Plant, we will return to normal operations with reduced flaring once our ethane customer’s facility has completed their maintenance work.

Looking further ahead into the year, Esso is planning to progress our Hastings Generation facility once we receive our permits and relevant approvals. The generators are essential in helping to reduce the need for flaring and will enable Esso to maintain our reliable supply of natural gas to the east coast of Australia.

Finally, I’d like to thank my predecessor, David McCord, who has been instrumental in building strong ties with our community and leading our operations at LIP. We wish him all the best in his new role within our company.

If you have any questions about our operations, please feel free to reach me at communityANZ@exxonmobil.com.
