An active supporter of Gippsland for over 50 years

ExxonMobil supports around 200 community groups and local charitable organisations each year though our community contributions program as well as employee volunteering awards and other programs.

Over the past seven years, we have contributed more than $7 million to community organisations, an average of $1 million per year.

“As one of the largest and longest standing employers in the region, we’re proud to support the local community by providing skilled employment, utilising local services and suppliers and assisting many community groups and schools through our community contributions programs,” said Richard Owen, Chairman, ExxonMobil Australia.

“We have been an active member of the Gippsland community since we first went exploring for oil and gas in Bass Strait in the 1960s.

“In that time, we have been fortunate to develop many longstanding community partnerships, including with local primary and secondary schools, hospitals, emergency response organisations such as CFA brigades, surf lifesaving clubs, marine rescue and a host of community service groups.”

In Gippsland, ExxonMobil has a long history of supporting projects that focus on health, education and the environment. This year, for instance, we have backed the important work of Conservation Volunteers Australia at the Sale wetlands while our Bright Future Grants program provides funding to Gippsland schools and kindergartens, helping to inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists.

ExxonMobil has proudly supported the Sale Lions Club with its Christmas hamper distribution for over 40 years and we have enjoyed a 35-year relationship with the Sale Hospital by providing funding for much needed medical equipment to the Central Gippsland Health Service.

“We also enable our employees to volunteer their time, skills and energy to making a difference in communities in which they live and work,” Richard said. “We reward their volunteering efforts in their own time through $1000 grants to their charitable organisation as part of our Volunteer Involvement Program (VIP).”

Since the program’s inception in 2002, ExxonMobil has provided almost $2 million in VIP grants to various community groups.

“We believe we can make a positive contribution to the areas where we make significant investments by supporting local groups to meet important community needs,” Richard said. “On behalf of our organisation and our workforce, we’re proud of our contribution to the Gippsland region.”
