Since joining the ExxonMobil Australia team 30 years ago, Bruce Sutherland has enjoyed a varied and challenging career that has spanned a diverse range of roles across five continents.

With Bruce’s return to Australia to lead the newly-formed South Pacific Fuels team, Australia and our South Pacific neighbours are now benefiting from his vast experience.
It’s immensely satisfying to know that every day we help support people’s lives and livelihoods by supplying essential fuel where and when our customers need it.

Executive Director and Fuels Manager, South Pacific

As Executive Director and Fuels Manager of the South Pacific region, Bruce oversees the essential delivery of quality Mobil fuels to customers in Australia, Fiji, New Caledonia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.

It’s a role that allows him to draw on his individual experience gained working in various roles across multiple countries.

Having lived in seven countries (Brazil, Argentina, France, Australia, UK, USA, Singapore), Bruce has found that one thing remained constant, whatever the location, or the decade.

“It’s immensely satisfying to know that every day, our work to supply essential fuel where and when our customers need it, helps to support people’s lives and livelihoods,” said Bruce.

“From drivers filling up their cars to get to work, to B-double trucks delivering fresh food to supermarkets, from major international airlines to farmers, from emergency service vehicles to power generation companies, so many customers rely on us every day to provide the quality Mobil fuel they need.”

Bruce joined the Mobil Oil Australia Graduate Program in 1991 with a Bachelor of the Arts (History) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics).

“Since then, about half of my career at ExxonMobil has been focussed on Planning or Marketing, and the other half has been spent in Commercial roles,” said Bruce.

“The most rewarding aspect of my roles over the years has been the environments I’ve worked in, the many changing business landscapes, and the disciplines I’ve had to apply to solve problems and overcome challenges as part of a team.

“Over 30 years I have the wonderful honour of working with a range of brilliant people who are dedicated to ensuring the safe and effective delivery of Mobil fuel, every day,” said Bruce.

“I look forward to continuing to work with the team as we fuel our group of South Pacific island nations, from Aotearoa to Papua New Guinea and everything in between.”
