Yarraville Terminal has a new control room, following a relocation of the original control room into the main administration building.

Yarraville Terminal Manager, Steven Flynn, said, “This is a significant step towards our ultimate goal of moving our terminal operations to one central control room across Mobil’s Altona and Yarraville sites as we continue our transition to one Melbourne Terminal.”

The new control room has relocated the terminal operators from a geographically remote location within the centre of the terminal to be in closer proximity to support services, which will enable better working dynamics within the team.

“The new location of the control room provides close integration with terminal management and support functions to bring everyone together into a winning competitive terminal team,” said Steven.

The new control room was designed with the latest ergonomics principles considered best practices, which were shared at the Australian Control Room Network Association (ACRNA) conference held in Brisbane in October 2023. These principles were applied via the design of lighting, window glare management and sit/stand desks.

The project scope included an upgrade to kitchen and break room amenities for use by all main administration building personnel.

Steven said, “This was a significant project that required careful planning and coordination to successfully manage a control room cutover while sustaining terminal operation and minimising customer impact.

“The team did a fantastic job and the transition was seamless.”
