Esso Australia announces completion of Longford Gas Conditioning Plant

• Production from the plant represents completion of AUD$5.5 billion Kipper Tuna Turrum project
• Development will supply 1.6 trillion cubic feet of gas to eastern Australia
• Plant part of the largest domestic gas project on Australia’s eastern seaboard

Production from the gas conditioning plant marks the completion of the AUD$5.5 billion Kipper Tuna Turrum development – the largest domestic gas project on Australia’s eastern seaboard. The development will supply 1.6 trillion cubic feet of gas to eastern Australia – enough to power a city of one million people for 35 years.

“This milestone, made possible with our Australian workforce and the support of our joint venture partners, ensures the continued supply of gas to the east coast market from our Gippsland Basin operations,” said the chairman of ExxonMobil Australia Richard Owen.

“The gas conditioning plant helps maintain current gas supply levels from Bass Strait, which has been producing for more than 40 years and providing energy to power the economy.”

Senator the Hon. Matthew Canavan, Minister for Resources and Northern Australia, attended an event on 7 May 2017 at the Longford Gas Conditioning Plant, where the completion milestone was recognised.

The development has made a significant contribution to the local economy with Australian labour, materials and equipment comprising approximately 70 percent of total project spending.

This project is another example of the continued investment by Esso and its joint venture partners in the Gippsland Basin operation, which over its life to date, has produced more than half of all of Australia’s crude oil and hydrocarbon liquids and added over AUD$570 billion to Australia’s GDP1.

Construction of the gas conditioning plant generated more than 800 direct jobs, with 90 percent of the workforce from the Gippsland region.
