The multi-million-dollar capacity expansion project involved upgrading part of an existing crude unit to add a pre-distillation step in the refinery’s process that increases the production of much needed diesel and jet fuel while enhancing energy efficiency.
The project was completed on time, within budget and without a single recordable injury.
It increases the refinery’s overall production from 80,000 to 90,000 barrels per day and enhances its energy efficiency and environmental performance through the recovery of an additional three megawatts of waste heat.
The Mobil Australia and New Zealand Refining Manager Riccardo Cavallo congratulated the refinery for excellent project execution.
“This project improves our efficiency and increases both our feedstock flexibility and our product flexibility, allowing us to focus on maximising yields of high-value products,” he said.
Apart from the six Fuelling Victoria Awards presented at the May 11 function, the Mobil team also celebrated four ExxonMobil Asia Pacific Excellence (APEX) Awards.
“As one of the smaller refineries in the region we should be proud of the technical excellence we have achieved in improving our operations,” said Riccardo.
