Mobil invests $95,000 into maths and science programs at local schools

Mobil is helping to inspire the next generation of engineers and scientists by investing more than $95,000 into science, technology, engineering and mathematics programs and resources at local schools and kindergartens.

The 2018 Bright Future Grants program sees 31 schools and kindergartens near the Mobil Altona Refinery and the Mobil Yarraville Terminal receive grants of up to $4,000 for resources such as new technology, educational games, 3D models and science equipment.

“From medicine to energy development to computing and engineering, scientists and engineers are essential to modern life; that’s why we invest in education programs that encourage critical thinking and inspire local students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” said Riccardo Cavallo, Mobil’s Altona Refinery Manager.

“Through these grants, we hope that young people can discover first-hand the possibilities of science, foster new ideas and one day become part of a highly skilled workforce of the future.”

Mobil has a long history of backing schools and kindergartens in Melbourne’s west. Since the Bright Future Grants program began in 2009, Mobil has provided almost $900,000 in support of maths and science education while Mobil’s Ambassadors program sees engineers visit local schools to share their experiences working at the refinery.
