Diversity a focus at Altona Refinery

The team at Mobil Altona Refinery continue to prioritise the development and retainment of a diverse workforce in order to enhance its overall business.
“The petroleum industry is a highly competitive business, and the market landscape continues to evolve,” said Altona Refinery Technical Manager Leona Chua.

“A constant flow of new, fresh ideas and viewpoints, and challenging paradigms is needed to be greater at what we do than anyone else to win.

“The diversity of thought, learning from each other, and an environment where everyone feels valued and knows they can add value, is essential to compete.

“We know that the best way of achieving this is to cast a wide net – to have a diverse, balanced workforce,” she said.

A number of years ago, Altona Refinery embarked on a strategy to recruit more women and this has given the company a competitive edge in the quest for the best technical minds.

While women still only make up a small proportion of the refinery’s workforce, they contribute a wide range of important positions.
