In this edition of Connection, we explore ExxonMobil’s extensive experience decommissioning offshore assets around the globe.
The process of decommissioning an offshore asset presents complex challenges. As the operator of some of Australia’s most mature oil and gas fields we are committed to decommissioning our Bass Strait offshore assets at the right time and in the right way.
In the article below, we look at some recent examples where ExxonMobil has safely and effectively decommissioned offshore assets in two very different ways to achieve positive outcomes. We also outline how we are leveraging this experience as we start to plan for the eventual decommissioning of our non-producing platforms in Bass Strait.
The Australian government recently released an enhanced framework for the decommissioning of offshore oil and gas assets for consultation, which aims to ensure a consistent and effective approach to decommissioning across the country. We are keen to share our extensive knowledge and experience in offshore decommissioning around the world and look forward to participating in the government’s consultation process.
