In this edition of Connection we take a look at the ongoing role of natural gas in Australia’s energy future.
Here in Victoria, we all rely heavily on Gippsland gas to power our homes and businesses. As Australia's energy landscape transitions, natural gas will continue to play an essential role maintaining the energy security Victorians are used to, by supporting gas fired electricity generation during peak demand periods or when intermittent renewable energy sources, like wind and solar, are not available.
Every day, the people of Esso Australia are working hard to provide Gippsland gas to the domestic market, helping to ensure Australians have access to a reliable supply of energy, where and when they need it - whether at home or at work, around the BBQ or the dinner table, at the local indoor pool or catching up with friends on-line.
We also provide an update on our ongoing early decommissioning works in Bass Strait, where we currently have two rigs working simultaneously on the Fortescue and Kingfish B Offshore platforms. Esso Australia is committed to decommissioning our Bass Strait offshore facilities at the right time and in the right way. Over the last few years we’ve made significant progress on our well plug and abandonment work, which puts non-producing platforms in a safer state until final decommissioning occurs.
